Chris Rock's Good Hair Preview
This is the trailer I discussed Monday in Class for the movie Good Hair. It mirrors a lot of the same things we were discussing about the pressures of modern society on African American Women to have certain hair to be considered "good"
I have naturally curly hair but I wear it straightened all the time because it is easier to manage and I personally think I look like a wet dog when I have my hair curly. I do not have to go through the process of relaxers so many people believe I have "good hair" because I can completely skip that step and only blow dry it. Little do they know that once a drop of water hits my hair it will turn curly. I spend $30 a week to have my hair straightened weekly and that is not including the gas I pay to drive to Boston to get it done. Straightening it so often has become a problem because it has decreased the volume of my curls so I at least try to keep it curly for one week within each month. I straighten my hair for the convenience and not solely because straight hair is what "beautiful" is supposed to look
