I particularly liked the lyrics from "Not a Pretty Girl." I feel like there is so much that needs to be said, but that there are so many ways to push aside issues that may be controversial or go against someone's beliefs. We live in a patriarchal society. In such a community it is easier to dismiss a woman's voice and her calls for equality because to both acknowledge that voice and to act upon it would threaten the male-dominated hierarchy that has been in place for centuries. I'm not trying to say that all males are bad by any means, but rather many realize that giving women the rights that they deserve, the equal pay, and the freedom to control their own bodies would shift the power distribution. In light of this, I think that feminists being able to find alternative media outlets where their voices can be heard is a great step toward making our standpoint heard.
