Preggers (Blog Eval)

An article on Feministing entitled "Miriam Grossman is teaching my child what?!" together with assorted articles on Girl With Pen seem to have a recurring theme: the idea that sex is being seen as a predominantly male-enjoyed sport. What these articles are fighting for is the concept of feminist sex. That women who have sex as much as men do are not doing it because they suffer from low self-esteem, depression, or lonely. Also, a main message on Girlwpen.com is that (at least according to the many motherhood adverts on the site) pregnancy is not a debilitating state in which the woman is incapacitated and out of the game. It’s an empowering process more special than anything else mankind is capable of. Yet this and sexual intercourse are made out to either weaken the females of our society or to be implied that they are not something the women enjoy. With the help of these blogs, hopefully we will learn to view woman’s greatest gift as what it is.

Feministing is by far my favorite feminist blog. It's where I get my news. It's extremely easy to access and you can make comments on anything you want in any medium--FaceBook, LiveJournal, etc. It's unbiased in the sense that their editors and writers are women from all parts of the spectrum (meaning queer, straight, women of color, women of all classes, etc.). They have videos and pictures but not so many that the pages get overrun. These articles are easy to read but pack a punch and you can tell Feministing's contributors really have energy and emotion behind what they're writing about.

And of course no discussion of Feministing would be complete without bringing up their icon, their logo, the Mud Flap Girl saying "fuck you" to societal beauty norms. She represents what this site is all about. A strong, yes beautiful, woman who is feminine on her own terms and refuses to be looked as solely on aesthetic appeal.

I love this site!
